How to display your sculptures: The images on our site were taken using lighting conditions which highlight the delicate internal patterns. For best results, actively illuminate sculptures from below or along an edge using LED's or another source of bright light. This way, light is reflected by the tiny mirror-like fractures, causing the internal Lichtenberg figure to glow brilliantly with the color(s) of the light source(s). Illuminating a sculpture using only transmitted light, such as looking through the sculpture to a bright window, actually reduces the observed detail and inner beauty. We offer a wide variety of standard and custom LED light bases that optimally illuminate our sculptures. As with snowflakes, every Lichtenberg figure is unique. Although your figure may differ from the examples shown on our web site, we guarantee it will be of similar, or better, quality. Most specimens have small fractures and light charring near the exit point of the discharge. This is a natural consequence of the high energy discharge process. By adding custom metal plaques to our bases, Captured Lightning sculptures make memorable gifts or unique academic, corporate, or retirement awards. We also offer custom laser engraving for our larger flat sculptures. Captured Lightning sculptures are treasured works of scientific art that will enhance the decor of any room or executive suite. Because demand is high and quantities limited, we recommend ordering soon to avoid possible disappointment. We combine shipping on multiple items whenever possible. Style 21A - 4 x 12 x 0.5 inch "Long John"
NOTE: Sculpture and Base must be ordered Separately Individually
cut and polished from cast acrylic sheet, so exact dimensions will vary
slightly (+/- 1/16") from piece to piece. Note
that discharges in some sculptures may not fully extend to one or both
far ends or to all corners, and discharges may not be fully symmetric. Specimens
with interior mixed dendritic/chaotic discharges may have the discharge
root located anywhere within the interior.

Style 24 - Beveled "Lightning Jewels"
These are beautiful 3.7
x 3.7 x 2 inch beveled sculptures with 3D two-layer discharges. Two
separate layers of discharges, many linked by discharges between layers.
The internal figures are reflected and refracted by the facets of
unique beveled jewels. Each jewel has been individually cut and polished from 2-inch thick cast acrylic so dimensions will vary slightly from piece to piece. Style 25 - Massive 2 x 3 x 6 Inch "Lich Brick"
These are massive polished brick-like figures that contain beautiful 3D
multi-layer discharges. Individually cut and polished from
2-inch thick cast acrylic so dimensions will vary slightly (+/- 1/16")

whether a Vertical Windblown Lightning, Horizontal Windblown Lightning,

as an experiment many years ago. All specimens self-discharged from
multiple edge and interior locations as they were being irradiated.
These are among some of the most complex and interesting specimens we've
ever made - with a complex combination of dendritic and chaotic

simply incredible - with two discharge layers and bridging discharges
linking them! Tree-like branching discharges grow from the lower

For brighter locations, we recommend illuminating these with the 7-LED CR35MC leaded-crystal, or the 9-LED BD753MC color-changing base. | Style 46 - 3.5-Inch Magnabrite NOTE: Sculpture and Base must be ordered Separately These started out as 3.5 inch Magnabrite light capturing magnifiers. These precision optical elements were part of an experimental run, so there are only a limited
number in existence. And, they really have to be seen to be believed! Be sure to click on above image to see larger images with various lighting options.
We offer two discharge types. A "single layer" discharge has a single tree-like discharge that begins at the base and branches to a curved discharge layer about 1/2" below the curved top surface. This allows the Magnabrite to still be used as a functional magnifier. The "dual-layer" discharge type has two layers - a flat layer near the base and a curved layer above. The dense lower discharge layer adds to the complexity of the discharges, but it makes using the sculpture as a magnifier more difficult. We also suggest ordering a round walnut ring to cradle your sculptures. The ring helps to prevent your Magnabrite from becoming accidentally scratched. Due to its larger diameter, the walnut ring may not be usable with smaller light bases such as the CR35MC. Optional polyurethane protectors are included to protect top surface of light base and bottom of sculpture or ring. Light base is not included and must be purchased separately. For subdued lighting areas, we recommend illuminating with the ROT45MC multicolor base. For brighter areas, we suggest the LM2692 light base with natural white LED's or the CR35MC multicolor crystal base. The Style 46 will slightly overhang the CR35MC base, but otherwise looks beautiful when illuminated by the brighter LED's in this base. AC adapters for the ROT45MC are available only for US power. However, the ROT45MC can be operated off three AA batteries but the turntable does not rotate in order to extend battery life. Style 53 - 2 x 6 Inch Cylinders
These
are stately 2" diameter Captured Lightning cylinders approximately 6"
long. These were rotated as they were being irradiated in order to
generate a cylindrical layer of charge deep inside. When discharged, the sparks followed the
cylindrical charge layer, creating a
hollow cylinder of captured lightning that is magnified by the cylindrical shape of the sculpture.NOTE: Sculpture and Base must be ordered Separately Light base is not included and must be purchased separately. For subdued lighting locations, we recommend using the CR35MC , BD985MC, or ROT45MC multicolor light bases. For brighter locations, we suggest using the BD753MC multicolor base with nine LED's, or LM2690 or LM2692 wood light bases with an array of five natural white LED's. AC adapters for the ROT45MC and BD753MC are available only for North American power. The ROT45MC or BD985MC can be operated off three AA batteries, but the ROT45MC turntable does not rotate in order to extend battery life. Style 84 - 6 x 6 x 1 Inch TWO-LAYER Sculptures
Note: Limited stock NOTE: Sculpture and Base must be ordered Separately
This is a brand new style that was created during our 2015 production run. Gorgeous
6 x 6 x 1" sculptures with polished edges and TWO interacting charge layers
separated by about
1/2". They were created by passing specimens through the electron beam
on
one side, flipping them over, and passing them through the beam once again.
This created two separate charge layers, each about 1/4" below the
major surfaces. The doubly-charged specimens were then carefully discharged, either along an edge or in the center of one face. This created a pair of discharge layers linked by hundreds/thousands of smaller discharges that fill the gap between the major layers. The resulting 3D discharge structure is extremely difficult to photograph, but is infinitely detailed and incredibly beautiful. Light base is not included and must be purchased separately. We recommend lighting these gorgeous specimens with our custom 6 inch wide natural walnut bases with cool white, natural white, or "electric blue" LED's (see below). Red, green and yellow are also available. These bases are also available, via special order, with red, green or yellow LED's. Contact us for details.
